Latest Update: - I DID IT!!
I started the race at 08h30, an hour and a half ahead of the 4 strong, well trained men with all their professional gear – outfits and bikes specially flown in from Holland for the event. Everything I wore was borrowed – the padded cycle shorts borrowed from Tim, the director of Breadline Africa, the bicycle (borrowed from Patrick – Tim’s 10 year old son), water bottle, helmet, gloves, t-shirt - you name it! So there I was, a last minute entry, heading for the hills amongst 31,964 cyclists who have been training and preparing for this race for months. And then, when I needed a helping hand / push and some moral support up the hill (note that we had an elevation gain of 224m!), I stopped to call them and was pleasantly surprised to find out that they were still behind me and that I was going to cross the finishing line ahead of them! Not only that, but 1,150 trained riders finished in a time slower than mine. Now imagine what I could do if I trained J Watch out for me next year!
Thank you again for supporting me and helping to raise funds the new school container! This is what actually got me through the ride but I still need your help in helping me reach my target..
