Story

Hello and thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On 14th June 2014, a group of adventurous souls from Raymond Brown Construction including Mark Kettle, Chris Williams, Pete Williamson, his wife Tara will be attempting to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales including all the driving in between in under 24 hours!

26 miles of walking, climbing a combined height of 3,407m, with little sleep, the National Three Peaks Challenge is not for the faint hearted and with a failure rate of 40%, is as much about mental integrity as it is physical.

We are undertaking this challenge to raise money to refurbish Victoria Education Centre's (VEC) caravan at Rockley Park, Poole. VEC is a residential and day school in Poole giving specialised, high quality care and therapy for young disabled people from 3 - 19 years old. All the students at the school have physical disabilities or complex medical conditions or needs.

The caravan located at Rockley Park is used most of the year by students of the school, their families and carers and is in desperate need of refurbishment.

Mark Kettle's son, George has a severe form of Cerebral Palsy and is profoundly disabled. George has attended VEC since November 2012 and stays at the school 52 weeks of the year. VEC is a subsidiary charity of Livability which relies heavily on donations and fundraising to keep vital facilities like the caravan at Rockley Park open for all the special children and their families to use.

Livability

RCN 1116530
Livability creates choices for disabled people and brings life to local communities. We offer a wide range of services to around 8,000 disabled people and their families, including residential care, supported living, education and accessible holidays. We also provide churches with the resources, advice and confidence to transform their neighbourhoods. Livability is a new charity, created by the merger of John Grooms and the Shaftesbury Society, two charities which have been hard at work among the UK's most marginalised people for over 160 years.
