Story
This challenge has been on the cards for quite some time as I wanted to raise money for cancer research in memory of my mother who died of breast cancer when I was 9. In fact, I had told a member of the QUB research centre on 5th Jan of my intention to surf the Bore in benefit of the centre. Little did I know that, a week later, I would be diagnosed with BOTH bowel and kidney cancer on 12th January 2016.
However, due to the excellence of research conducted in Belfast (and beyond), my doctors were able to fill me full of confidence that I would be able to make a full recovery and get on with my life.
I'm delighted to say this panned out to be true. I now wish to make sure that others, in receipt of the news of having cancer, no longer fear the worst. And understand that due to the excellent on-going research that they too can, increasingly, have a full and rewarding life.
Due to the fantastic work in the cancer centre, I am thankfully able to continue with my planned challenge (though minus a kidney and half of my bowel!). So this has unexpectedly become an even more personal challenge.
I really hope everyone can support me and the exceptional work that myself and my family are so grateful for. 100% of the funds raised are going to the Cancer Research Labs in QUB.
