Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page
My little brother, Johnny was 12 when he died in 1983. In many ways he was a pioneer; he had severe Epilepsy which at its worst resulted in having up to 12 fits a day. He was a regular patient at Great Ormond Street Hospital and I can remember my mother crying because the best doctors in the world were unable to find a cure for him.
Today, owing to the relentless research Epilepsy is no longer a killer.
Johnny was a happy little boy who wanted to join in the fun when he was able. He would have loved ORCHYD. He would have been excited for months before a holiday away from the routine of home. He would smile and giggle hearing the stories of events to come. He would welcome meeting new friends and he would have revelled in the games, the outings and the party atmosphere.
I first saw ORCHYD two years ago and was overwhelmed by the care given by volunteers to the most needy of children. ORCHYD gives the best gift of all, for a few days these children will experience fun and laughter in a secure warm atmosphere and will remember long after they go home.
Each transport vehicle costs approximately £36,000. This enables more children to experience the joys of ORCHYD. When the bus is not being used by ORCHYD it is leased to other charities for their needs.
One of the many children that experience the joy at ORCHYD could have been my brother.
Please give. Put a smile on a child's face.
