Story
I am running this for our eldest who is on the Autisic Spectrum, but also for all those who have helped us in the last few years; the brilliant support at Nazeing School; the supportive medical professionals we have met along the way; the amazing family and friends who just accept us and pick us up when we need it and most of all, my youngest who always makes sure that we have smiles on our faces and a hug when we need it!
The 15km Walking consists of Maryanne Proctor with sisters Rosie White with Hannah Stolton, Vicki Richards, Janet Sullivan, Paula Rossi, Penny Brian together with Julie Healy and her lovely daughter, Erin.
In September 2014 Carla Ellice organised for a group of mums to start to learn how to run. We wanted to raise money for charities close to our heart and embark on this journey as a team. We called ourselves 'mums on the run'
Carla says "I was inspired by my good friend Jackie Baker (Crawley) who is a true hero. She never moans, is constantly having some sort of treatment and has had major surgery and yet she is always smiling and always happy. I thought to myself, if she can go through all that, I can run s few miles and raise some wonga!!! "
Mums on the run is a group of mums/aunties with children in Nazeing - we didn't really know how to run but since September we have been learning. A hardcore 5 have run 10k on 1st Feb for Cancer Research, but when the opportunity to do a 15km walk for the National Autistic Society & PACT came up, we couldn't turn it down!
PACT for Autism supports families with children and adults affected by Autism and other disabilities. By working in partnership with education and health professionals, they strive to achieve the best possible outcomes for our families. They greatly appreciate the fundraising efforts of all our families and friends as all monies raised will go towards leisure activities for our children and adults with autism. They have wished all the mums (and aunties and daughters) taking part the best of luck!!
We also need to mention those who are also part of our "Mums on the Run" journey and offer a huge amount of encouragement, but can't do the 15km! .They are Jackie, Carla, Claire, Lorna, Laura, Jess, Denny, Becky, Becca and Brooke.
