Story
Matt and Mike are going to ride from London to Paris at the end of July and finish the day before the final stage of the Tour de France.
We have decided to pay for the trip ourselves, however we would like to raise money seperately for a local charity in Swindon.
We have decided to raise money for the Prospect Hospice as it is a charity that Matt has experienced first hand how they work, and how helpful they are.
Here is Matts story:
6 years ago my Mum was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer, this started what was a roller coaster of the next 6 years with some fabulous highs but some damaging lows. My mum had 2 operations, 2 lots of radio theropy and 4 lots of chemotheropy. My mum was actually given the all clear twice before unfortunately in January last year (2013) my mum lost the battle she had faced. Through the 6 years the prospect Hospice were with us to support both my mum and my family. They provided information on the type of illness my mum had, provided skilled nurses to support my mum through the different types of treatment. My mum also got assigned someone that she could meet up to on a weekly basis and have a coffee and discuss how things are going and what challenges she was facing and to also provide informative information every step of the way. As well as providing these levels of care the prospect also provided support to both the family and my mum when she first lost her hair and also sent her on confidence boosting sessions/ days where she could try different types of make up to boost her confidence and make her feel "normal" and that she didn't have the illness.
it is really difficult to imagine going through everything we as a family have gone through without the prospect Hospice, and want to do this ride to give something back and ensure that the level of service me and my family received is continued for people going through these stresses in their life now.
We would really appreciate if you could donate to our chosen charity so that the Prospect can carry on helping others.
Thank you
Matt
