xx In Loving memory of Oscar George Hodgson xx
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page, which has been created to raise money for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth - a place very close to our hearts.
At 8:30pm on Saturday 9th July 2016 our beautiful son, OscarGeorge Hodgson, was born 13 weeks early at the RD&E hospital in Exeter.
It was completely unexpected and after a very short labour, Oscar had arrived. Being born so early, he was very poorly and within a few hours of birth we were transferred from Exeter to the specialist facilities at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.
Here, Oscar was cared for by the most amazing consultants, nurses and staff for three days before he sadly passed away, in our arms, at 6:44pm on Tuesday 12th July 2016.
The Neonatal ICU ward and its staff were simply amazing duringthe most traumatic, worrying and upsetting time of our lives. The care, knowledge and compassion showed by them all was truly incredible.
In memory of Oscar, Matt and his brother Steve are completing a two day challenge on the 27th and 28th October 2016.
The challenge will be a run and cycle of 52 miles from Derriford Hospital back to our home town, Dawlish.
Each day will consist of around 13 miles on bike to get through the busy main roads and the rest on foot, a run of around 13 miles, equivalent to a half marathon each day.
It's a very tough and challenging route which will take Matt and Steve across Dartmoor to Bovey Tracey on Day One and then from Bovey Tracey through Newton Abbot and Teignmouth before arriving back in Dawlish on Day Two.
Please support them with this extremely tough challenge by donating through this page.
We know that whatever money we can raise in Oscar's memory will benefit premature babies and their families at the amazing Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Derriford Hospital. It will help with things like funding vital research and the training of staff as well as with equipment and medication costs and continuing to provide facilities for parents staying at the ward with their babies.
Oscar was with us for such a short time, but the memories we have of him will live forever in our hearts.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and wethank everyone for your support and generous donations.
Matt and Jenna Hodgson x
