I've often thought about doing a parachute jump but frankly have doubted whether I'd ever be brave enough to do it. So when Shirley contacted me and said that she wanted to do a skydive on her 80th (!?!?) birthday I knew that the time had come for me to confront my fears. Plus I'll be turning 40 in a couple of months and people over 40 need a doctors certificate to jump out of planes!

Of course we're going to use this opportunity to raise some desperately needed funds for the bears. Shirley was with us in Laos when we carried out a world-first neurosurgery on ChamPa the Moon bear. It has been over 2 years since ChamPa's surgery and she is still doing great so we've decided the time is right to give her living quarters a bit of an upgrade. I'm covering the cost of my skydive myself so that anything donated will go directly to help the bears.
