Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Sunday 26th June, I will be walking Yorkshire's Three Peaks - 24.5 miles and 5,249 feet of ascent/descent inside 12 hours - to raise money for Shift.ms, a charity with which I have been closely involved as its Chair for the past three years.
Shift.ms is a social network for young and recently diagnosed people with multiple sclerosis (MSers). The charity aims to create a positive and enabling community which empowers MSers to acknowledge their MS, rethink how to achieve their ambitions and get on with their lives. MS is the most commonly diagnosed neurological condition in people in their 20s and 30s in the UK; and yet it can often be difficult for MSers to find and meet others their own age to share and learn from each other's experiences of living with the condition. Shift.ms fills this gap, as my younger brother, Edward, found when he was diagnosed with MS some years ago.
It was Edward's enthusiasm about Shift.ms which convinced me to become involved in its work; and I shall be walking with him on Sunday. Last year, Edward cycled round the entire coast of England & Wales to raise money for the charity, so it will probably be more a case of him supporting me round The Three Peaks rather than the other way round.
