Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was with a friend in Nairobi a few years ago when he got a call from his wife to tell him that his week old baby had died. It was a pretty crappy day. No one seems to know why the child died but it seems that Kenya's poor health care system had something to do with it.
A few months ago he gave me the exciting news that his wife was pregnant again - this time with twins. As you can imagine there is much fear mixed in with their excitement.
This is where we come in. They have health insurance that will cover KES 50,000 (Kenyan Shillings) that is £350 towards the birth - that means giving birth back at the same inadequate local clinic where their previous child died.
The cost of bumping that up to a somewhat better health facility (certainly not top rate private but better that the local one) is KES 180,000 (£1250).
So they have a shortfall of £900. And that shortfall could be the difference between life and death for their two children and for herself.
