Story

In September 2015, the Real Estate Department launched their
biggest fundraising challenge yet.  They pledged to help raise £10,000 towards the firm's target of £42,000 to build a girls’ dormitory for Lewa at Ngare Ndare Secondary School, part of the Lewa Education Programme.

Every brick costs £10 so buy as many as possible for Lewa
Wildlife Conservancy because our target is to raise £10,000 in 5 months

In 2004, Lewa was only supporting four schools. A decade later, this has increased to 21, with the prospect of extending into the greater conservation area beyond our borders.

Ngare Ndare is one of two schools Mishcon supports and is a day secondary school. Students walk long distances to attend school often in an unstable area, which is particularly concerning for young women who are at risk of rape, early marriage, kidnapping or coercion.  To stay safe, many young women pay for accommodation in homes closer to school.

In order to meet these costs they often have to take on manual labour
jobs in the evening and weekends.  This is time that should be spent studying and preparing for their exams, but instead it’s taken up with work so they can just survive through the school term.  A dormitory would change the lives of the young women enrolled in Ngare Ndare by providing a safe option to sleep at night and freeing up time to study in the evenings.
