We educate children to help them escape poverty

Story

Thank you for visiting our Just Giving page.  I'm Matthew Norton, the founder of the Memusi Foundation, a U.K. charity that works with local communities in Kenya and Tanzania to provide free, high quality education to children who would not otherwise have the opportunity to go to school.

2 MEN, 1 TANDEM, 1700 MILES, 2 WEEKS - 2 MILLION REVOLUTIONS FROM HOME

In June 2015, Jon Alexander and Bernie Hollywood OBE will be cycling 2 million revolutions on a tandem to take them from Africa back home to Yorkshire.

The challenge will take 14 days, cycling a gruelling schedule of 100 to 150 miles per day through 3 countries and crossing the Pyrenees en-route.

The event aims to raise over £50k to fund the development of a pre-unit and infant school that will provide FREE primary education to over 200 children per year. Education is the primary way out of poverty for a child and rather than a sticking plaster covering a problem, Memusi work directly with communities to provide FREE education that increases a childs chance of a job by 46%. It is through education that we will see a reduction in global poverty and the issues that this brings with it. We believe in this mission...and this is why we will cycle 2 million revolutions to home.

We would be very grateful if you could support them by making a donation - no amount is too small and every penny raised will go towards the project to build the school.

Just £5 will buy a Malaria net to protect a child whilst most vulnerable from contracting Malaria and £25 will buy a desk for a classroom. £1 will feed a child for the day and £15 will buy the books needed to teach the child through the academic year. With every penny going to the end cause (ZERO OVERHEADS) literally every penny counts.

We are also offering some very special offers...

£100 TO APPEAR ON A WALL MURAL ON OUR NEW SCHOOL

We are offering you the opportunity to have the names and hand-prints of you and your loved ones, or your business and colleagues, appear on a wall mural at the new school if you are able to raise/donate £100 or more.   This is a unique opportunity for you to leave your mark on Africa in a mural that will be seen every day by the children you are supporting.  We will contact you if you donate this amount. Alternatively, if you choose not to state the amount, please email (mattnorton123@yahoo.co.uk) to let us know.

£7,500 TO NAME A CLASSROOM

We are seeking corporate sponsors to partner us.  These partners will be profiled in press releases, social media and events running up to and following the challenge.  Each classroom will carry the name of one corporate partner and partners will be given the opportunity to visit and officially open their classroom.

Bernie and Jon will finish their cycle at 'Eat Sleep Bike Repeat', a 24 hour endurance and world record cycling event that is taking place at Holmfirth Vineyard in Yorkshire on 4 and 5 July 2015.  If you are interested in taking part, please visit: www.esbr24.com

If you would like to join us at one of our schools as a volunteer or to sponsor one of our children, please visit: www.memusifoundation.org.uk
