Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Thursday 30th June I will be attempting to cycle 255 miles along the canal from Leeds to Liverpool returning to Leeds the following day.
Why am I doing this? Apart from the training required keeping me out of the pub for the next few weeks I am looking to raise funds for a small charity called Africa's Gift.
I have had the great fortune of working with Africa's Gift over the last few years on small projects in Lesotho such as the building of houses for teachers and repairing school roofs. .
In areas such as Malealea in Lesotho most people live by subsistence farming. However, due to the lack of funding and knowledge crops often fail and there is very little support provided by the state. Three years ago Africa’s Gift started one of its biggest and most ambitious projects to date. The vision was to develop a teaching farm for the local community to help educate the local farmers on conservational agriculture techniques. On my most recent visits to Lesotho I have worked on helping to establish the farm and further development of this is specifically what I am looking to raise funds for. You can find out more at www.africasgift.org
Whilst the ride alongside the canal will be relatively flat the terrain is variable with a mixture of tarmac, gravel, dirt and even cobbles. Add to that the obstacles of gates, low bridges, joggers, dog walkers and even the aggressive geese I have encountered then that makes this challenge a real challenge!
