Story
Before we tell our story there is a big "thank you" to be made, especially to Jon Allen who celebrated his 60th birthday on the 29th May 2014. Jon has asked friends and family to donate to our just giving charity instead of receiving birthday gifts. Also, Jon is one of our sponsors along with Glen Calvert of Affectv, Gillian Girle, Peggy Ford, Cycle Works, Kingsley Garage (Kempston), Lockwood Lithographics, J.P. Hygiene and Attack Pest Control. Without their sponsorship this ride would not be taking place.
From the 14th - 22nd June - (1,000 miles , Whew!) we will be cycling to support The Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital.
My wife , Kenny , suffers from a life changing disease called Sarcoidosis (a lung disease). She has suffered with this for the past 20 years. It is not known what causes the disease and currently there is no cure! The disease can only be managed through various stabilizing treatments.
Kenny has attended the Royal Brompton Hospital for the past 18 years receiving treatment to assist with the quality of her life which has changed so drastically. She attends every 3 months for lung function test and when things get really tough, on a weekly or monthly basis. Staff are always available when Kenny feels she needs to see someone during any period when she is not feeling she can cope on her own.
When I met Kenny we shared a love of and were very active in sport - playing doubles badminton, cycling and dancing. Before this disease struck, Kenny would have joined us in this ride but to feel useful, Kenny has volunteered (my heroine) to act as back-up to the weary cyclists by driving between each stop with our much needed equipment.
Frank, one of the team members , has also been a long time sufferer of asthma but he has not let this stop him from keeping fit and putting in many miles of cycling. Frank also did the ride along with myself 10 years ago.
