Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page, set up to raise money for GUTS in memory of Mike Scott, our friend of over 30 years.

Amongst Mike's many great qualities was his athleticism and his incredible appetite for physical challenge, which saw him compete in running, cycling and swimming events in an array of combinations. As his friends we never quite met the standards that he set - to say the least! So, in Mike's memory, we have decided to take up a challenge ourselves and have entered a 35 mile off-road mountain bike event on the South Downs Way - this Saturday, 18 July.

The riders are all school friends of Mike of somewhat varying fitness levels (though none matching Mike's): Stephen, Chris, Nick, Adrian, Neil and Peter.

Mike lost his battle to cancer on 8 January this year after a long fight with the disease. GUTS aims to improve survival rates of those with bowel cancer through better screening, detection, treatment and care. Please help us to raise money for this great cause.

About the charity

GUTS is committed to detecting bowel cancer early. It's a sad fact that 1 in 20 people will develop bowel cancer; it's the second most common cause of death by cancer, affecting both men and women. GUTS strives to change this - detected at the earliest stage, there is a 90% chance of survival.
