Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Daisy chains IW is an Isle of Wight based children’s charity helping children and babies with long term health needs, disabilities and life limiting conditions.
They help with the cost of cross Solent ferry travel to and from medical appointments and therapies and also with the cost of specialised equipment that is not available on the NHS.
What many people don’t realise is that for parents facing this scenario, there are no public funds to help meet the costs of travel. The NHS is unable to pay for travel for the children themselves or the family members who must travel with them. In many cases, the children and parents are away for several days, weeks or months at a time tearing families apart at a time when they need the support of each other most.
For the siblings of these poorly children it often means not seeing either Mum or Dad for long periods of time and these absences add additional strain and emotional pain to an already challenging situation. If that wasn’t difficult enough, the financial strain of finding the funds to pay for travel and accommodation on the mainland, or for specialist equipment can be crippling.
Since they were founded in Sept 2012 they have helped over 55 Island families 30 of these in the last year and they expect this number to double this year as they are now receiving more requests for help on a weekly basis, due to this they are always looking for ways to raise funds for the charity.
