Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was sitting in a Duchenne Family Support Group Committee meeting one Sunday when the topic of London Marathon places came up. We still had several places that were available to raise money for us.
I said, (quietly), that I would run for us and having several witnesses to this statement was quickly signed up to do the task!!
I started off well with training / eating well and have (as usual) lost motivation and energy for training so need all the encouragement and help I can get. I am quite honestly, dreading this task ahead of me!!!
Having said that, my son, Dan has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He was diagnosed in 2002, at age 3 lost the ability to walk at age 12 and now is unable to complete any daily living tasks such as eating and going to the toilet independently.
He cannot walk, cannot run, cannot go to the cupboard to have a snack, cannot make a cup of tea, cannot go out with his friends on his own, cannot go to the toilet without asking or shower, go outside, watch TV, put on headphones without help from myself or another care worker !! Dan is 16 years old!!!
There is no cure although we live in hope for a suitable treatment as Dan's life expectancy is severely reduced due to this cruel and progressive disorder. Some of my friends have lost their sons before their 17th birthday so I am very aware of how very blessed we are with each and every day we are together xx
What more can I say, other than please give all you can. This charity organises such wonderful days out and holidays for all the families affected by DMD to get together and for these lads to be "normal" amongst other young men affected with the same thing. These holidays are subsidised by the charity giving everyone a chance to get away and relax with amazing support and guidance.
I appreciate all your love and support over the years - Thank you xx ❤️❤️ Xx
