Story
On 12th June, triathletes from around the globe will descend on San Francisco for one chance to attempt the impossible – to ESCAPE from Alcatraz… I will be attempting the pinnacle of global triathlons to raise money for Mary’s Meals and the schools in Malawi that are funded in my beautiful daughter Mariana’s memory.
Never successfully achieved by any prisoners on Alcatraz, we must swim 2.5 km across the strong currents and shark infested waters of the Bay, from Alcatraz Island to the Marina Green Beach at San Francisco. Then we embark on a 30 km cycle race through the infamous hilly streets of the City before completing the challenge with a 13 km run along the shoreline of San Francisco.
Our beautiful daughter Mariana died, aged nearly 4, after a short illness in March last year. She was a truly inspirational, fearless and loving girl who engaged with everyone and everything and who brought so much happiness to so many. We miss her so very much.
Mary’s Meals provides a meal each day to some of the world’s poorest children at a school, feeding them whilst encouraging their education. Mariana has two schools sponsored in her memory in Malawi, East Africa, and our challenge, through your generosity, is to maintain the funding of those schools.
