I have volunteered over 3 years for the charity in Musoma, Tanzania. My role has been to assist with the design and supervision of construction of health centres, water tanks and toilets in villages. None of these villages has electricity or clean water and they rely on water polluted by human and animal waste. As a result, the health of villagers is poor and some 1 in 5 children do not liive beyond 5 years of age. 

Water tanks, fed by rain water, provide clean water for villages, schools and health centres. Toilets are needed to encourage girls to continue their education at school. Many villagers cannot travel to the local hospital in Musoma and so health centres provide a lifeline for pregnant women and for identifying and treating prevalent diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, cholera, typhoid and dysentery.

The charity responds to priorities set locally and funds the purchase of materials and the employment of villagers to construct the heal;th centres, water tanks and toilets.
