Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

It has been decided that Mobile Assets will use the first part of our name wisely in the month of November and we will be having a ‘Mo Assets Movember’.  Please click on the link below to view pictures of the brave team members who are giving up their razor for the month - weekly photo updates will be added!

For anyone not familiar with the Movember term, it is a campaign that has been running since 2004 where men grow a moustache and cannot shave it off for the entire month of November to raise money for charity.

The original purpose was to raise awareness for men’s health issues, however, we will be combining the Movember idea with a charity that one of our Mobile Assets contingent works closely with and dedicates a lot of time to, the charity ‘Over the Wall’.

Below is a little more on the charity from Luci Green (Strategy & Bids Manager):

‘The charity is "Over the Wall" (www.otw.org.uk) who are based in Havant.  They provide therapeutic recreational activity camps for children with life limiting and sometimes terminal illness during the Easter and Summer holidays in Dorset, the Midlands and Scotland.  OTW provides camps for over 500 children every year which allows those with complex medical needs to relax, have fun and meet other children in similar situations.  The activities and programme are specifically designed to foster coping, resilience and confidence building techniques while in a safe and fun environment.  Most of the children who attend camp have spent much of their childhood in hospital, and the camps give them all the chance to participate in activities they wouldn't be able to enjoy at home or in school, including kayaking, climbing and horse-riding, while in a safe and extremely fun environment.  The charity also runs separate camps for siblings, giving them the opportunity to be the centre of attention while having a common experience to share with their siblings.

However, Over the Wall provide the camps to children at no cost and are totally reliant on donations.  I use at least two weeks of Annual Leave per year volunteering at camps, spend several weekends interviewing and assessing new volunteers, and organise and participate in various fundraising events.’

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

We provide activity camps for children and young people affected by serious illnesses. These young people frequently lack confidence as a result of prolonged and isolating treatment. At camp we create a fun and positive environment where our campers can act their age without worrying about their illnesses. In the presence of others facing similar challenges, feelings of isolation are overcome, confidence grows and friendships are made.
