Story
ERM employees across Asia pacific region are working in partnership with GERES (Groupe Energies Renouvelables, Environment et Solidarites) to improve access to clean, smoke-free cooking stoves in Myanmar.
Why? More than 80 percent of Myanmar's population rely on wood or charcoal for their daily, domestic energy needs. including cooking. This reliance can lead to high rates of respiratory disease and premature death caused by smoke inhalation, and also contributes to annual 2 percent rate of deforestation. GERES is working to stimulate domestic demand for improved cookstoves in Myanmar, and foster a policy environment that is supportive of positive climate and energy action.
In addition to fundraising, ERM employees are providing practical and technical support for this project, including:
- Creating educational materials that can be used to target communities and help raise awareness about the benefits of using improved cookstoves
- Designing surveys to collect and analyse data on user satisfaction
- Providing Geographical Information System (GIS) support to develop maps presenting the data that has been collected
- Designing workshops to show potential distributors and/or customers how to use the stoves.
Thank you for your support!
