Story
We are Team Synergy, a group of eleven young people aged 15 to 17 on the NCS (National Citizens’ Service) programme. We are fundraising for the charity ‘Forward UK’ in order to raise funds and awareness that will help towards eradicating female genital mutilation (FGM), and provide support to those affected by it. We share ‘Forward UK’s’ vision whereby “women and girls live in dignity, are healthy, have choices and equal opportunities.”
This is a fragile, often taboo issue that we all feel very strongly about. FGM is an act that violates a young girl’s human rights and leaves her burdened with the mental, emotional and physical consequences of an inhumane and highly illegal procedure.
In order to support what we believe to be such a valuable cause, we are running four major events. These include bag packs on numerous dates throughout August, a sponsored run/cycle on Sunday the 17th August from tring to Aylesbury, a bucket collection from 14th August to the 16th August and finally a festival-style event in Watford on the following Sunday the 24th. This final event is to celebrate the preservation of childhood and innocence, both being qualities that are stolen from a girl that has undergone FGM. In addition to this we will be running a live gaming stream as well as a Youtube channel.
The target sum of money we aim to raise is £1000+. If you wish to support us in any of the aforementioned events, we would greatly appreciate it.
This account is for the sponsored run donations.
