We raise funds for XIAP Deficiency research to save young boys lives across the world.

Story

Having been roped into the run, I thought it best to make the most of the opportunity and raise some money for a local charity Our Brave Knight.

Our Brave Knight is a charity that has been set up to fund as much research as possible for XIAP(X-Linked Inhibitor of Apotosis) Deficiency. This is a very rare genetic disorder that only affects boys. Having this genetic disorder means your immune system doesn’t work properly and the only known cure is a Bone Marrow Transplant, which is a risky procedure anyway made worse if you’re a XIAP patient.

XIAP Deficiency was only discovered as its own unique disorder in 2006, so there is still not enough known about it to save every boy that has it. Visit www.ourbraveknight.co.uk for more details.

Please donate to my run and raise as much as we can for a worthwhile charity.

We started this journey in September 2013, after our own Brave Knight was 36th in Europe to be diagnosed with XIAP Deficiency. Unfortunately he lost his battle in May 2014. So as you can see this is a very rare condition, it's a genetic condition that only effects boys. It stops the immune system from working properly, so a common cold can become a matter of life or death. As well as the condition, the treatment for it is also life threatening. We want to raise money to fund any research to stop the treatment also being life threatening.
