Story
Neil Davies and Jayne Wray, AKA E=MC Hammer are off to take part in the sponsored Benidorm or Bust 'old banger race' which sets out from Blackpool to Benidorm on May 6th 2015.
Our naive hope is that we will race an old banger from the UK to arrive safely, without mishap, unscathed and in good fettle at Benidorm a few days later. Of course the real objective is to arrive first ahead of the 200 other participating teams! Maybe? We are taking part to raise money and awareness in support of our local Mind mental health charity and The Friends of St Giles School for pupils with special educational needs. Both charities do amazing work and heavily rely on the generosity of sponsors and donors to sustain this work. We hope to raise over £2,000 – assuming the banger gets us there!
The aim of the rally is to purchase an old banger worth no more than a few hundred quid, adapt it to a theme of choice and take it on a navigational challenge from Blackpool to Benidorm participating in yet-to-be-announced challenges along the way.
We have bought a car and will pay for the entry, petrol, hotels and flight back from Spain ourselves, leaving the car in Benidorm to be scrapped. All sponsorship and money raised along the way will go directly to the charities. Our trip will take us through Calais, Rouen-Le Mans, Poitier, and Zaragoza before finally reaching Benidorm. It will be a challenge, especially if we have to repair the car en-route so we'll be taking a boot-full of supplies and repairs. It's a long way in an old banger!
If you would like to donate money, equipment or resources or would like to promote your company by buying a sponsor logo sticker to go on the car contact us through Facebook, Justgiving, or email Mindadmin@btconnect.com and we’ll get back to you. All money raised will go towards making a real difference to the lives of people with mental health problems and children with special educational needs. You can follow our progress and support us on Northampton and District Mind’s and Wellingborough Mind’s Facebook pages.
