Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

The NR Property Team taking part comprises of David Biggs, Nigel Escott, Stuart Kirkwood, and Jo Lewington.

As part of Network Rail's drive to provide more land and property for much needed housing, we have been working to see if we are able to bring into productive housing use unviable small rail adjacent properties.  These are properties where the normal disposal route is not an option because of their location and proximity to the railway.  To this end we are in discussions with Haig Housing (the largest provider of housing for the ex-Service Community) and social housing providers, to see if they are able to invest in such properties and bring them back into use as much needed affordable accommodation.  Our early work has been with Haig Housing building on the historically strong relationship between the railway and the armed forces.

To support this initiative we have decided to try to raise money that Haig can use to help in the renovation of properties and hopefully specifically rail properties such as the buildings at Raynes Park station and Mitcham Junction Station.  On the 3rd June, we will take on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge, climbing the Yorkshire Peaks of  Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.  This will involve climbing 2,153 metres and walking a little over 25 miles in the marvellous Yorkshire Dales all in under 12 hours.  The walk will take us past the iconic Ribblehead railway viaduct steeped in railway history as are the properties we are trying to bring back into productive use.
