Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
During 2015, Gordon and I will be taking part in a number of cycle rides to raise money for Spinal Injuries Scotland in memory of my Dad, who passed away at the end of November 2014.
In June 2013 my Dad had a very minor fall in the back garden that resulted in him sustaining a major spinal injury. Following initial treatment in Aberdeen he was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Spinal Injuries Hospital in Glasgow, where he stayed until October that year. During that time the treatment he received was fantastic and we couldn't have wished for a better team to look after him.
Many activities for the patients at the hospital are supported and organised by Spinal Injuries Scotland, who arrange art classes, seasonal parties, days out and on-going support for patients and their families following their discharge from hospital.
This support and the activities make a huge difference to the patients who often spend many months in hospital.
My Mum and Dad made a number of friends during his stay in hospital who were either suffering from a spinal injury or supporting a family member with an injury.
At the end of November my Dad passed away as a result of cancer but I know that he would have wanted us to continue to support Spinal Injuries Scotland for the friends that he made.
We are both fairly new to cycling, so the races we have chosen to do will be a real challenge, especially as most of these routes will see us climb some significant hills.
This is the list so far, but we may add others:
25th April Etape Loch Ness - 67 miles
9th May Etape Caledonia - 81 miles
30th May Cairn o'Mount Challenge - 80 miles
13st June Spirit of the Glen Sportive - 68 miles
28th/29th August Ride the North - 173 miles
27th September Etape Royale - 100 miles
This totals 571 miles, including approx. 10'000m of ascents and the training required to prepare will likely amount to 3-5000 miles each over the course of the year.
My Dad is missed by us all and there is not a day goes by when we don't think about him, if you feel a connection to this worthy cause we would be very grateful if you could show your support to us and SIS by donating.
