Hi Guys,
In March our friend Josh Carter found a lump on his testicle. By April 15th as a precaution his testicle was removed and what followed was a diagnosis of germ cell cancer. This spread to his lymph node in the lower abdomen.
Josh has been undertaking 9 weeks (3 week cycles) of BEP chemotherapy since the 5th June and begins his 2nd cycle tomorrow.
Cancer has the power to not just physically disable people but crush them emotionally. Although we know behind closed doors Josh's emotions must be much more intense than when he is with us - He has been positive, lively and as always a joy to have around. When we first heard the news of his diagnosis we were shocked and promised to shave our heads to raise awareness of testicular cancer and make Josh feel more comfortable at the time during which he would inevitably lose all of his hair on his body.
Today, during work as residential sports staff at an International college myself and Matt braved to shave. In front of a large crowd of children ranging from all different ages we raised awareness of the cancer as well as putting on an experimental show to see if we could raise money for a charity of 'Scholesy's' choice - It is with great pleasure that I can announce our bald heads have raised In the region of £180.
This leads me on to mention the charity Scholesy desires to raise money for. Somersham Ward Group is where he has been undertaking his treatment and Josh has done nothing but sing the praises of the nurses, doctors and atmosphere that has made such a challenging time a better and easier time. It sounds like he has received fantastic treatment so let's all get together and show Somersham Ward what they have meant to Scholesy and help them make improvements for the future to benefit other patients.
Keep up the good work Somersham and keep your head up Josh you old bean!!!
