Story
Hi, my name is Buzz.
As a young pup I decided that I wanted the life less ordinary, so I left England for Afghanistan and trained as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) dog. The training was tough going and they really put us through the ringer, but I soon got to grips with all the drills and SOPs. Before I knew it I was responsible for an entire security checkpoint, searching vehicles for explosives and weapons. The hours were long, but I really enjoyed the work. What was especially good was knowing that I was helping to prevent the bombings and carnage that blight daily life in Kabul, which kept me going on those really hard days.
So after five years in the city life threw me a bone (get it?). They transferred me to the Q-Hotel, less hard-core than being out on the street, but I still had to be top of my game as I had a busy gate to run. The big boss was a really nice guy from Scotland, I couldn’t understand a word he said and he had terrible taste in music, but we became really close over the years. I’d kinda hoped he’d take me home when they let me retire, but with his job being based here he just couldn’t do it. However, as luck would have it he introduced me to this other guy who told me about this magical place called Ireland where everything is green and it never gets too hot. They have forests and parks and places where a dog can just go be a dog, you know? He said his dad will take me in and I can live in the house, lay by the fire on winter nights and even get up on the couch as long as his mum doesn’t catch me. That sounds pretty cool to me and I think I’ve earned it after eight years of hard graft and saving lives.
I’m not a dog who believes in a handout or anything, but no one paid me so much as a cent since I’ve been here so I need your help to get me to Ireland.
