We know this is a large amount of money to ask for, but for these saved animals it means the whole world...

As if rescuing a companion animal from the volatile war-torn streets of Afghanistan was not complicated enough we have been faced with a new obstacle to overcome...

Sadly a new EU directive which came into force on the 29^th December will now prevent us bringing animals into the United Kingdom or Europe, (even via quarantine) unless their owner arrives within 5 days of the animals entry. Whilst this new ruling clearly does not stop us carrying out the vital role of companion animal rescue for UK based soldiers it does make it even more complicated and stressful.

As we had several animals about to leave for their forever homes in the UK after the new ruling had come into effect we made the decision to bring their transport forward. This required us spending some of our limited and much needed reserves to fund their flights as most animals had yet to have their transportation costs fundraised.

We are relieved to say that the following cats and dogs are now safely in the UK either in quarantine or have just been released (dependant on when their blood tests were carried out):

Spartan, Smudge, Sonic and Tails, Qashang, Zebhi, Xena, Seble, Kohi, Frankie, Tigger

We have cancelled all of their fundraising pages and created one communal page to fundraise the costs we have incurred in bringing them to the UK prior to the new ruling taking effect. The money raised will go straight back into our winter reserve that is required for food for the animals, warm bedding and fuel to get us through this harsh Afghan winter.

Question: How is the money I donate spent? How do I know it is used to help an Afghan stray companion animal? Can my donation go towards a specific animal? Answer from Nowzad: As a charity we are bound by the strict auditing regulations demanded by the UK charity commission. The board of trustees make sure the money is used to maximum effect in making a difference to the lives of animals in Afghanistan, which includes the daily running costs of the Nowzad Afghan shelter, rescue transport costs, animal food and medicines (including vaccines) and of course our Afghan staff wages. If, for whatever reason the companion animal rescue is not successful (disease or injury) then Nowzad will use the money collected on this Just Giving page to support the daily running of theNowzad shelter – if you are not happy with our policy then please do not donate as we are unable to offer refunds.
