Our Story:
On the 14th and 15th May 2016 I will be taking part in a solo 24hr run called Hope 24. This challenge will be the most physically and mentally challenging event that I have ever attempted but I’m doing this to remember our precious and much wanted little baby who we sadly had to say goodbye to.
In 2015 at 13 weeks into our second pregnancy we were told the devastating news that our baby had the very rare chromosome disorder Trisomy 13, otherwise known as Patau's Syndrome. We discovered that with such a condition, the chances of having a live birth were around 1 in 10,000 and life afterwards would be very short usually lasting only hours with the baby having to endure catastrophic complications.
Sadly we were faced with making the agonising decision to end our pregnancy and for us there is a 1 in 4 chance of it reoccurring again.
Prior to this, without knowing and remarkably though despite such odds we were blessed with the healthy arrival of Isaac who keeps us strong.
Our Chosen Charity:
We were so lucky to have the support of close family and friends to help us get through this past year, but there is also a charity who people in our position can turn to at this difficult time. That charity is ARC which stands for Antenatal Results and Choices.
The charity offers couples the opportunity to talk to people who are
going through or have previously endured a similar situation to ours. This is invaluable when you have been given such a heartbreaking prognosis and you feel totally alone in your experience.
ARC offers non-directive information and support to parents before, during and after antenatal screening; when they are told their baby has an anomaly; when they are making difficult decisions about continuing with or ending a pregnancy, and when they are coping with complex and painful issues after making a decision, including bereavement.
ARC is the only national charity helping parents and healthcare professionals through antenatal screening and its consequences.
Despite being a small charity (receiving less than £70,000 in fundraising last year), ARC provide vital support and information to those parents who receive a worrying screening result or when a fetal anomaly is diagnosed in their unborn baby.
ARC deserves all the money they can get to help those parents who, like
us before, face such a devastating loss.
Please be generous and dig deep to help us raise money for this supportive charity.
