OMV Lebanon Project 2016, 1 March 2017

Story

Since 2010, the volunteers of the Order of Malta Volunteers have been operating a two week holiday camp for severely mentally and physically disabled Lebanese children and adultsOver the years, we have developed a deep friendship and bond with our friends who live at the Sisters of the Cross convent (Deir el Salib) institutions across Lebanon. These summer camps have resulted in a clear improvement in the social and mental wellbeing of the participants.

As attention of local and international organisations has shifted towards covering the refugee crisis, we believe it is our task to insure assistance is still provided to these homes and fundraising has become increasingly difficult.

With your help, financial and/or as hands on the ground, we can insure that these children and adults continue to receive meaningful and vital support.

Your donation and our pledge to you:

All the money you donate to us will go directly to the
project, how do we do that?

  • A zero cost fundraising event. (ie, as opposed to the vast majority of fundraising events, we do not spend any money on decoration, entertainment, space rental etc.).
  • A deadline to spend your donation. The complete amount of your donation will be spent by 10 July 2016. (ie, we do not put any money you donate in reserve, all the money donated to us will be spent by the end of this year’s summer camps).
  • No staff expenses. All our team of helpers, doctors and nurses
are unpaid. We do not pay for their plane tickets.

Our operating policy:

  • No discrimination. For as long as our 900-year-old organisation
has existed, it has been serving the sick and the poor regardless of race, religion or nationality. (ie, The people we serve during our camp in Lebanon come from variety of different religious
    groups)
  • Open door policy. We welcome and provide a tour of the project
    to all interested individuals.
  • Transparent expense and budget policy. We seek to raise £11,000 to run the project, the table below shows the breakdown of our expenses.
  • Cost efficiency. In these two weeks we are able to serve 60
residents of Deir el Salib with a small budget of £11,000.

Budget (based on 2015 expenditure):

Transport £2473.65

Insurance £1162.30

Medical Supplies £1000

Food & cleaning products £2484

Accommodation £1632.54

Other (clothes, toys, activity equipement) £1000

Sub-total: £9752.49

10% Contingency £975.25

TOTAL: £10,727.74

The success of our fundraising campaign will depend entirely on your online donations, of which every single penny will be invested in this year's camp. To reach our target, we kindly ask you to donate as generously as you can. If you are a UK taxpayer, please ensure you tick the gift aid option as this will boost your donation by 25% at no extra cost to you.

Thank you for your generous donations and helping support this amazing project!
