Story
Hi Everyone,
I've been wanting to organize a Charity Challenge for myself for a while now and I have finally taken the plunge and settled on the Challenge (Amiens to Amsterdam) and the Charity (Sumatran Orangutan Society).
The reason I chose to support SOS is because I've always liked animals and I am incredibly moved by the plight of these beautiful, intelligent Great Apes. We share 96.4% of our DNA with the Orangutan but due to our mismanagement of their habitat they are projected to be extinct in 10-20 years. SOS is a great charity that aims to build awareness for Sumatran Orangutans both around the world and in Sumatra. They support front line conservation projects including the replanting of natural habitat. Please visit http://www.orangutans-sos.org/ to find out more about the invaluable work the Sumatran Orangutan Society does but please don't forget to donate on this page, Thanks!
I will be riding from Amiens, France to Amsterdam, The Netherlands later this year in September on a track bike (only one gear!) decked out in orange. The trip will be 500km long over 4 days, pushing me to the limit both physically and mentally. Both this page and my personal Facebook will be updated everyday during the trip with my clumsy reportage and amateurish photography.
I'm sure you are already raring to throw your cash at me but just in case you still have some reservations here is a list of reasons to donate:
- You will be supporting a great charity with a worthy cause.
- Donating is fast, secure and tax deductible.
- You get to see me putting myself marginally out of my comfort zone.
- You will be helping me personally achieve something that can make a difference.
Thanks again for donating (you know you want to) and I'll see you on the other side!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity.
