Story
On Sunday 26th October the legendary Blackstone Rovers F.C. will take to
the field to contest the P.D. Finlay Memorial Cup against the Northern Ireland
fans team.
The match will be played in Ballymena at the Michelin Athletic Club and all
fundraising proceeds will go to support the charity Brainwaves NI and the
fantastic work they do.
The match is in memory of founding Blackstone Rovers F.C chairman – Patrick
Finlay. PD, as he was known, was the driving force behind the Blackstone Rovers
during their 5 years tenure in the Ballymena Saturday Morning League.
The team saw the highs of promotions and the lows of relegation during their
existence but it was the camaraderie amongst the players which was the
undoubted success story of PD’s footballing vision.
PD was diagnosed with a brain tumour in April 2013 and sadly passed away in
August 2014. During this time Brainwaves NI provided support to him and his
family.
PD was an amazing individual who will be sorely missed by his family and
friends alike.
