Story
Peterson's Fund for Children is a small charity based locally to where I live in Surrey who support children who are struggling with mental and physical disabilities. The funding it raises is used to provide therapies and equipment otherwise unavailable on the NHS in order to improve their quality of life and offer them opportunities in order to maximise their individual growth and potential.
The picture above is Dexter, he is the son of my daughters' dancing teacher.
Following an acute Placental Abrupton, Dexter was delivered via a category 1 emergency c-section on on 30th July 2015 in an extremely poor condition. After being deprived of oxygen, he was resuscitated, ventilated and taken onto the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to be cared for and put on a cooling mat for 72 hours to prevent any further damage or bleed to his brain. Amazingly, he survived and two weeks later was able to go home, feeding from a bottle. Dexter suffered grade 2/3 hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy which resulted in him having moderately severe brain damage to two areas of his brain. It has recently been confirmed that he has Cerebral Palsy affecting the whole of his body. Dexter is a sweet little boy but will be facing some difficult times ahead but hope with the support of
Peterson's Fund for Children he can reach his potential and thrive.
So…
On Sunday 31 July I shall be riding in the Prudential Ride London 100 mile bike ride to help raise money for the Petersons Fund. I appreciate that most of you are bombarded with charity requests on a daily basis and you might think that a 100 mile bike is actually "a bit of a jolly" for me. If, however, you could spare a couple of quid I would really appreciate it… I know all charities are worthwhile but every £1 given to Peterson's will be visible to the families affected as the charity is so small and so local in its reach.
