Story

Party in the sky is a one off event which will raise funds for both Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust for their work in Reading and also for the Reading Partnership Board (RPB). DKH Legacy trust wants to create a legacy from her athletics career that would benefit the young and disadvantaged people who look up to, and are inspired by elite sports performers like herself. Having seen firsthand the difference that world class sports performers can make to kids' lives, Dame Kelly set up her own charity, the DKH Legacy Trust. Its mission is to 'create life chances for young people'. Disadvantaged young people who are deprived both socially and economically are in danger of being excluded from higher education, training and employment. DKH Legacy trust wants this to change and ensure a thriving future workforce in the Reading area.

The Partnership Board supports and promotes Reading’s role in the 2012 London Olympic Games & Paralympic Games and supports the local community to organise and take part in celebrations for the Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. A year-long events programme promises to involve every sector of the community – from street parties to the Olympic Torch Relay.

About the charity

The Dame Kelly Holmes Trust’s mission is to get lives on track using world class athletes to engage, enable and empower disadvantaged young people. At a time where there are more than one million 16-25-year-olds not in education, employment or training (NEET) in the UK, our work is now more important than ever. Through a range of personal development programmes run across the country, every one of our young people receives mentoring and support from a world-class athlete.
