Dear Friends,

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  My daughter Emma decided we had to do something special to recognise the work and dedication provided to my Dad when he was diagnosed with oral cancer in June 2010 and throughout his care. The work performed by the hospital's Oral Cancer Maxillofacial/Head & Neck Multi-Disciplinary Team was and is second to none, and we cannot thank them enough. Sadly my Dad passed away in August 2012 but we know the team did everything they possibly could.  Throughout his treatment my Dad was treated with care, compassion and most importantly like a normal person.  In fact I have to say my Dad looked forward to his routine visits which were often, nothing ever got him down and during each visit the entire team made him feel like a superstar and always had him laughing.  The money raised will go towards the facilities at the maxfax unit, ensuring patients get the best treatment and are as comfortable as possible during their visits. Please read on a letter which Emma has written to local businesses in order to raise funds for the charity and to give thanks to the team who gave us an additional two special years with my Dad. 

 

Dear Friend,

I am holding a charity fundraising night in aid of the maxillofacial department at the Queen Elizabeth formerly the Southern General Hospital, Glasgow. This particular department is one which is close to my heart as I lost my grandfather last year to oral cancer. The great work of this department saved my grandfather’s life for a further 2 years, giving him precious time to spend with his beloved family.

To raise awareness of the superlative work of the surgeons, doctors & nurses within this department, who gave my grandfather the medical and mental support he required to continue his battle with cancer.  I would like to raise funds as a personal thank you and to help future patients receive the same care.

In order to ensure the success of this fundraiser, I am seeking donations for our auction in which all contributions will be paid to the above charity.

I hope that you will give due consideration to our request and will make an important contribution to this cause.
