We give a home, schooling and healthcare to Kolkata's street and slum children

Story

1,500 mile walk in India to raise money for Future Hope, a charity based in Kolkata , India which provides a home and schooling for street children.

I first went to India as a long-haired student in 1973. Thus began a love affair that has continued to this day.

In 2000 our late daughter Katie and I visited Future Hope in Kolkata as members of a party from the Dragon School , Oxford. Future Hope provides a safe home and a loving family environment for about 120 vulnerable children, most of whom have been forced to live on the streets of Kolkata. it also runs a school for its own children and for children from the local slums.

Since that initial visit in 2000 my family have been supporting Future Hope. Our daughter Bubble and my nephew Robin have worked there as volunteers and my wife Lucy and I have been back to visit on several occasions. It is a joyous organisation. To learn more about it please visit www.futurehope.net.

I retired at the end of 2015 and for several years had been hatching a plan to do a long walk in India in order to raise funds for Future Hope. The long walk has a great tradition in India eg Mahatma Gandhi's Salt March and the long distances walked by pilgrims in order to visit religious sites.

The walk that I am doing is from Kanya Kumari at the very southern tip of India up the east coast to Kolkata. The walk is dedicated to the memory of Katie and I am dubbing it "the K Walk".

The length of the walk is about 1,500 miles. If you would like to support me by making a donation to Future Hope via this page I would be immensely grateful. I have set up a Facebook page called The K Walk where I will be posting news of my progress, photos, videos etc.
