Paul Buckley (Bucko) was a big man with an even bigger heart. Those who met Paul never forgot him and those who called him a friend were proud to do so.

Paul had a great sense of humour, a generous heart and giving nature. He was a “Rock” to many of us; there just wasn’t a problem he couldn’t get over, under or around. Friends and family often sort his advice and when you could separate the expletives you’d find pearls of wisdom.

Paul wasn’t perfect by any stretch and he knew it. He had a fault or two but they added to his charm and made people seek out his company and friendship all the more.

Paul had two great loves, his family and football. He was a life long “Red” and he ran Merton Villa JFC for 9 years. During the season he’d spend every Friday night planning Saturday’s game and picking the team trying to get as many lads on the pitch as he could; it’s fair to say Villa couldn’t have brought him more pride if they’d won The European Cup.

We have already donated over £2,500 to Woodlands Hospice in Paul's name; over the coming months Paul’s family and friends are gathering together to remember him and at the same time raise further funds for Woodlands to support them in the amazing and vocational work they do.

ZIP-LINE: On 12th October a group of Paul's family and friends have agreed to complete a Zip-line from the Manchester War Museum Roof across the canal to the Lowry Theatre. All sponsorship monies will be donated to Woodlands in Paul's name.

DRAGON BOAT TOURNEMENT

Friends & family took part in the Dragon Boat Tournament on Sunday 30 June, at Crosby Lakeside. We held a raffle with the top prize being a limited edition '737 shirt' donated by Jamie Carragher. The raffle raised £520.

Isabelle Buckley: In June, Paul's niece and God Daughter Isabelle completed the Sefton Triathalon; Isabelle raised £105 in sponsorship which she donated to Woodlands in Paul's name.

Lynn Higgins of the Seaforth Community Shop has added the following:

We are recycling old footwear in any condition to raise funds for Woodlands Hospice in memory of Paul Buckley.  This is out of gratitude for all his hard work and dedication in ensuring families in south Sefton did not go without food last Christmas.  He did this by helping secure donations of food, toiletries and hygiene products to make up hampers for families referred to us by local schools.  He was also was instrumental in making up the hampers (approx 100) and distributing them in spite of being very poorly and without consideration to himself.  We will never be able to repay everything he contributed at the time nor the legacy of the hampers that he has left behind which is to make this an annual event in his memory.   
The footwear is weighed in and we in turn then receive an amount per kilo which we donate to the hospice.   

WE NEED YOUR OLD SHOES:  Any donations of shoes can be handed in at The Community Shop is at 73 Seaforth Road Seaforth and is open Monday to Friday 10 am till 2 pm.

NOTE: By the end of September the Seaforth Community shop's incredible shoe recycling effort meant their donation had reached ALMOST £700!!

Saint Jerome's Primary School, Formby collected old shoes which were weighed in or sold at Seaforth Community Shop. In total they raised £30.

NOTE: Paul worked on the Christmas hampers with his friends Philly & Michael Carragher and 23 Foundation. Toiletries & hygiene products were kindly donated by Proctor & Gamble ( P&G).

P&G are continuing to help the Seaforth Community Shop and 23 Foundation.
