CONGRATULATIONS - YOU have smashed the target!!!!
There are more photos of the beard antics here: https://goo.gl/photos/GBx18aJD9Ma5NAMf9
Our close friends are dealing with the effects of CHD and when asked who to raise funds for Callie's mum suggested Families of Ocean Ward. They provide practical, financial and supportive care for all members of the family dealing with the trauma of a child going through such serious surgery. The families who stay on the ward form a close, long standing bond quickly and this charity helps them to focus on each other, the siblings and poorly children rather than worrying about the day to day.
2 years ago lovely Callie was born and it was soon discovered that she had CHD - Congenital Heart Disease - meaning she was born with 5 complex heart defects.
At just over 2 weeks old she had her first open heart surgery. The surgeons at Southampton and the Ocean Ward team saved her life. After numerous procedures, prodding and poking Callie had to have another open-heart operation.
As she grows she needs more specialist care to help her enjoy life to the fullest. It's now approaching the time for her third open-heart surgery.
Callie's amazing parents and brother have been very loving, strong and level headed whilst being supported by various groups, family and friends. The pictures help show the ups and downs Callie and the family have gone through over the last few years.
So where does the beard come into this? Well it's a marmite thing - you either love it or hate it. I have had many a random compliment in admiration of my facial plumage from both jealous gents and lovely ladies. Conversely my youngest niece - and the other camp - have the opposite reaction and can't stand it. Given it's taken about 6 months to grow this long I think it's prestigious enough to warrant you shelling a few pounds for a great cause (not weight watchers ones).
Much love and thanks I extend to you on behalf of the many children and their families who will benefit!
