I am taking part in this event for my own personal challenge but also to support my son who faces a challenge everyday of his life. He was born with Hunter's syndrome which is a life shortening condition which may mean he next lives to be thirty. He is a fantastic example of how children deal with the cards they are dealt. He works hard at school, lives life to the full and cheers everyone up. He makes me proud every day and especially each week as he has to have a treatment which last 3-4 hours and impacts greatly upon his life. The least I can do is pull my finger out and try to raise some funds to support the charity. The GEM Appeal is run completely by volunteers who dedicate their time to raising funds to support research which helps children with MPS. Harry is lucky in a bizarre way, to have treatment. There are many children for whom there is no treatment yet. I know what it is like to be a parent who is told that their child requires a life saving treatment, but to be told that there is no treatment (YET!) must be soul destroying.
