Story
My mum was taken ill in March 2012. She had a sore throat, thats all!. It never got better and she was quickly tested and diagnosed with throat cancer.
The treatment although hopeful was quite horrific. She coped with the pain and suffering in such a brave manner.
it became evident early in 2013 that the cancer wasnt removed. It was diagnosed terminal. She was cared for in the community by the hospice staff.
My mum was taken to the hospice for rest during her suffering with throat cancer. The cancer took its toll so quickly. The inability to eat or drink much made life pretty unbearable. The pain became unmanagable and also unbearable.
We saw at first hand how much care was given when there was so little hope. From physio to just a friendly chat. People popping in with pets just to brighten up each and everyones day.
It was amazing to see the smile on my mums face when such a simple thing as a small dog being brought in for a cuddle on the bed and just a nice chat with the kind volunteer who came on a weekly basis.
The staff are truly remarkable.
We as individuals dont see and dont have to work in an environment like this. The staff surely have their own lives and family worries. All I saw was hope, care and compassion from all the staff.
We would like to thank the hospice for the care my mother received during her stay.
