Story
Hello :)
At the end of May we (Paul & Sophie) have decided to do
something completely insane on two fronts…
Firstly, we’re going to complete a race in forty degree heat
Secondly, we’re going to do it in Sierra Leone – a country that
has been ravaged by civil war and, more recently, Ebola
As you can imagine, our families are delighted that we’ve chosen
to do this.
Oh, and we’ve also had to take out additional life assurance
policies as standard ones don’t cover visits to Sierra Leone. That news kind of
brought the message home that this is slightly insane.
So, why are we doing this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAHcu6JZz3k
Since the outbreak of the Ebola crisis in excess of 8,500 people
have died in Sierra Leone and Liberia.
This has led to around 20,000 children being orphaned by Ebola
alone. Many of these children are at risk of hunger, malnutrition and abuse.
And there are thousands more children whose access to education is now
critically at risk as a direct result of the disease.
Many of Ebola's victims were on the margins of society before
Ebola began. For the children and families left behind, the long-term effects of
the virus are still very real. Without urgent and immediate support, this
humanitarian crisis will increase.
So, we’re hoping to do our bit for a very worthy cause.
Paul is aiming to do the half marathon and Sophie is aiming to do
the 10k so please donate generously because this is going to be bloody hard so
we need every piece of inspiration and motivation we can get!
Many thanks,
Paul & Sophie
