Mount Denali Update
January 2013. Well I completed the British '3 Peaks Challenge' in less than 24hours. But I have still to reach my fundraising target. Thank you again to all those who have donated, there is still time for those who would like to donate!
Sadly I did not make it to the top of Mount Denali. I reached 19,000ft (5700m) and am pictured relaxing there in my Tree Aid T-shirt! In order to make up the 'missing' Denali height, some 1300ft, I will be attempting the British '3 Peaks Challenge' later this month. After all it would be a shame to waste all the 'get fit' effort!
A big thank you to all those who have already supported Tree Aid and The Kanyike Project, for anyone who would still like to donate there is still time.
Thank you for your support, Paul
Over the last 8 years I have embarked on a number of mountain climbing expeditions and in the process raised £25,000 for two charitable organisations which I think do particularly important work in the developing world - Tree Aid (www.treeaid.org.uk) and the Kanyike Project (www.kanyike-project.co.uk).
I have reached the summit of Kilimanjaro in Africa, Elbrus in Europe, Aconcagua in South America, completed the GR20 in Corsica and will be climbing Mount Denali in Alaska summer 2012.
Denali (also called Mt McKinley) is one of the highest peaks in the world; it is the highest mountain in North America and is one of the 7 summits, the highest mountain on each continent. Due to its far northern latitude and abrupt changes in weather conditions this will be the toughest and coldest expedition I have attempted.
By undertaking this challenge I am hoping to raise a further £15,000 for Tree Aid, who will use the money to complete a project in Northern Ghana. This project is helping the communities of 10 villages develop new skills in sustainable tree and land management, including raising and planting trees to prevent erosion and provide an income stream.
With your generosity this very worthwhile project can be completed, I am very grateful for any contribution that you can make by sponsoring me.
Thank you, Paul
