After stumbling through another year of university myself, Sam and Wilf decided to do something big for charity this summer.
We have chosen to raise money for the Brain Research Trust. A charity that raises funds for the world-class research facility at UCL's Institute of Neurology (IoN), London. In 2013 Sam lost his father to a rare form of brain tumour and more recently this year Duncan's grandmother suffered a stroke but is now making a steady recovery. As a result, this is an area the three of us are really passionate about. The brain, and more particularly mental disease is still largely not understood and we felt this would be a great way to raise awareness and as much money as possible to try and make a difference.
The three of us were fortunate enough to receive an invitation to our good friends 21st birthday celebration, which will be taking place in his native city of Lisbon. With nothing but a lot of enthusiasm and no previous cycling experience we have decided to cycle the gruelling 1650 miles from Plymouth to Lisbon in 30 days! We will be hopping on a ferry from Plymouth on the 19th July and arriving in Roscoff on the morning of the 20th. From Roscoff we will make haste down the west coast of France, climbing the daunting Pyrenees, cutting across the north of Spain with the final leg taking us down the west coast of Portugal.
We are hoping through the generosity of our friends and families that through this challenge we can raise a sum of money that is capable of making even the smallest of differences. Kindest Regards,Duncan, Sam and Wilf P.S. All money raised will go directly to the charity and not to fund the trip itself.
