Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I started getting to know Southmead Hospital in 1985 when, still in my twenties, I was diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure.  I soon had to start haemodialysis, while my name was added to the transplant list.  After nearly two years of death-defying dialysis I received a really well-matched kidney from a donor, and amazingly that same kidney has now been with me for over 27 years.  Many of the other patients have had a very tough time, and I've seen BAKPA working tirelessly, with the hospital, to help make life easier for kidney patients and their families.

This year I've bought BAKPA raffle tickets (any money won will be given to BAKPA as a donation) and I'm asking you to donate to BAKPA too.  Why should you do this?

  1. Because you don't have to fill in any raffle tickets.
  2. Because as a small charity BAKPA could really use the extra money.
  3. Because I'm doing Movember, albeit slightly hijacked to raise awareness of transplantation.

It would be great if this inspires you to fill in a donor card too - visit http://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/how_to_become_a_donor/ for details.

Thanks for your support.

Pete
