Story

Hi everyone

I'm trekking up and down Snowdon on June 25th in aid of DrugFAM, the charity of which I am chair of trustees. DrugFAM is a small charity doing some great work providing help and support to families and carers adversely affected by the substance misuse of a loved one. As always, we need your help and your money to keep doing this valuable work.

I would be very grateful if you could support DrugFAM by sponsoring me on this trek. Every donation helps, however large or small. If you are willing, please click on the donate button and follow through the process. Please complete the gift aid section if you are a UK tax payer.

More about the charity.
DrugFAM’s core purpose is to ensure that families and carers affected by a family member’s use of drugs and alcohol are understood, educated and supported. We understand that families facing this issue are confronted with feelings of helplessness, shame, fear, isolation and despair. In many cases families of addicts can suffer from stress, anxiety and other mental health issues; they are frequently impacted by an addict's criminal behaviour; are often victims of physical or mental abuse; and commonly experience poverty, hardship, discrimination and social isolation.
DrugFAM exists so that no family member, friend or carer has to face these challenges alone.  Our small staff team, and our 20 regular volunteers, often provide the first point of contact to families who are in crisis and need urgent help. For those who need emotional support, we can provide this on a one-to-one basis; in person, via e-mail, and through our telephone helpline which is open from 9am to 9pm seven days per week. As needed we are also able to connect families to DrugFAM support groups in their local area which operate on a weekly basis.
Our website www.drugfam.co.uk gives more information on what we do including specialised services to help particularly vulnerable groups such as young people and those who have been bereaved by addiction. The range of services we offer to those bereaved by addiction makes DrugFAM unique in this area.
