Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my just giving page for the Methodist Church in Ireland Everest Base Camp Trek 2016.
A team from Ireland will be taking to the Himalayas in September 2016 and will spend 14 days trekking to the base of the worlds highest mountain reaching an altitude of 5,545 metres.
Trekkers will meet the full participation costs including, all flights and transportation, food and accommodation, trekking and support costs and insurance etc.
All fundraised money from this trek will be used to fund firstly the Kopila project in Nepal. This supports work amongst the Dalit people particularly women who have been economically, socially and educationally excluded as a result of the Hindu caste system. Work involves literacy classes, micro-credit schemes and training in advocacy skills so that they my obtain their rights from local agencies.
Then second project is based in Ireland and is called The Surf Project. It aims to enhance the social, moral, physical and spiritual well-being of young people using the sport and culture of surfing.
By way of an update as at the start of September the team of Trekkers are getting excited as we near the departure date and boots are being well broken in undertaking training hikes.
I have now raised just over £2000 including the just giving contributions so thank you all for the generous support.
