Story

My goals for this campaign:

- Raise money for the community foundation

- Raise awareness of support services available to young men in the local area.  Particularly services that will benefit young men with changing circumstances.

- Reduce suicide rates in our town/borough.

Over the course of 2016/17 I am competing and organising various different events with a view to raising 100k for the Wigan Warriors Foundation.

The first event is Sunday As Peter competes in a dragon boat race.

What I am doing and why

Suicide amongst young men in particular is one of the biggest killers in the UK - Directly I have been affected by this subject when my friend Anthony chose this route and brought an end to his life aged just 30 years old.

As part of the grieving process I suppose , I decided to research the subject thoroughly, and found it to be a massive problem across the UK particularly in Young men- This Is a problem that we don't really talk about enough and maybe that's the fundemental problem

Young men like Anthony, Me and some of you reading this aren't brought up to instinctively know where to get the help and support needed when life hits hard - when you get hit in rugby for example and your hurt you see the physio - who do we see when life hits hardly mentally - the answer was never provided in our schooling for example.

In further education also it was no where to be seen, I went through a college sports course at one point with Anthony - mental fitness and it's importance wasn't on the agenda at all.  That's two major parts of growing up where i feel the system / education failed us.  Why weren't we taught more about the support that's is available and how to access it , how to cope with change and keeping yourself in the right State of Mind?

When I researched the subject further there were lots of charities foundations and services locally - it's just until I had to deal with the word suicide I had never come across them by them it was too late obviously.

So ..... In conjunction with The Wigan Warriors Foundation I want to raise awareness of the existing support network that exists in our town, wider borough and country-

The Wigan Warriors Foundation site in Wigan for example deals locally with some of these issues , changing family circumstances , food poverty and much more

Over the next  year and a half I plan to raise 100k to help this foundation keep going , expanding the range of help services / help available - this will culminate in myself and a  Pedal to Paris, to raise awareness of suicide rates amongst young men

Cycling was one of the hobbies Ant had that he asked me to come along on a few times and we had never quite got round to doing it - so now in his memory I would like to raise this massive amount and travel the length of the country spreading the message along the way - please help ....

The first event we are kicking off the campaign with is a dragon boat race in Preston and we are looking for your donations ...
