For those of you who know me I have always been into my fitness and well being, however in my wisdom of 48 years I have decided to go out and buy myself a road bike and also enter the annual CARTEN 100 cycle ride which takes me from the start at Cardiff to the finish in Tenby, a distance of 107 miles.
The last time I seriously cycled was easily 30 years ago before I was able to drive. I plan to get into my training for the event by going out on my bike on the weekends, so if any of you want to join in with a ride and support me in my training you're more than welcome and it would be more than appreciated.
The main reason for me jumping or riding into this event with two feet is to raise funds and awareness for the outstanding staff and volunteers who work for the Ty Olwen trust at Singleton Hospital.
As most of you know a few years ago my family was ripped apart by that most horrendous disease which is cancer, I lost both my brother Jeff and my Dad Sid within 6 months of each other.
Towards the end of my Dads illness he was admitted into Ty Olwen where the care he received was unbelievable, the staff were so helpful to myself and my Mother and so compassionate and caring towards my Dad making the last couple of weeks of his life comfortable and dignified.
So with this in mind I ask you to dig deep into your pockets, wallets and purses and give what ever you can afford to this outstanding Trust so that it can keep giving the unmeasurable treatment and care to the people who are fighting this terrible disease.
Many thanks Phil.
