Story

Thank you to everyone that has donated on this page, or the pages of our volunteers so far!  Incredible effort!

On the 21st of August, Project Leyte started their 1.1 Million Campaign with a stated aim of raising 1.1 million Philippine Pesos by the one year anniversary of Super-Typhoon Yolanda on November 8th.  This symbolic amount, one peso for every home that was affected, will allow nine Progressive Core Homes to be built and strengthen the communities that they are in.

All Hands Volunteers set up Project Leyte in December, responding to the destruction that saw Typhoon Yolanda destroy or severely damage 1.1 million homes.  Since March, All Hands Volunteers has played a prominent part in addressing the need of the 4 million people displaced and have helped build 146 transitional shelters which allow families living in tents and inadequate housing to be relocated.

However, transitional shelters are a temporary measure and often see families relocating far from their homes and livelihoods.  Project Leyte's latest initiative is to relocate families to Progressive Core Homes, which can be built within the family's own community, causing the least amount of disruption to their lives.

The 1.1 Million Campaign will allow nine of these homes to be built and strengthen the communities that they are in.

After the fantastic success of the fun run, with over 35% of the target reached, Project Leyte has decided to continue the momentum with a grueling 300km cycling event. 6 cyclists, volunteers from all different walks of life, have committed to cycling the long distance stretch from Guiuan, Easter Samar, to Ormoc, Western Leyte, following the path of Super-Typhoon Yolanda. All Hands Volunteers will be visiting and staying in communities along the way to document first-hand the recovery and although there has been significant progress there is still much more to be done.
